Congratulations Lake Forest Hills Elementary Chosen as 2010 CSRA Capitol Tech Team. Teachers: Maeve Wigelsworth and Marcia Doris. Students: Ethan Staats, Robert McFadden, Laine Showman, and Ava Avalos.

The Child Service Award gives recognition and reward to the children in the CSRA who voluntarily give their time and efforts to help improve the community. To view a list of children in our county who have been nominated for this award, click here.

FreeOnline ExPreSS (Exam Preparation for Science and Social Studies) will be offered by the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) online to all high school students and certificate of attendance recipients who were unsuccessful on or who have not yet taken the Science and/or Social Studies Georgia High School Graduation Test.  It will offer self-paced units based on the instructional plans created for the summer ExPreSS Program.

The Georgia Professional Standards Commission  (GaPSC) is moving to paperless certification. Beginning January 1, 2010, the GaPSC will no longer print and mail certificates and correspondence to educators. It will instead issue these documents electronically.

Congratulations to Martin Epps (Laney High), who recently won “Best in Show” in the 31st annual Agnes Markwalter Youth Art Competition in Augusta with his statue of a water bottle made entirely of recycled Yellow Pages directories.

On Thursday January 21st, RCSS Superintendent Dr. Dana T. Bedden and Augusta Mayor Deke Copenhaver announced the development of a charitable fund for Haitian Children.  This fund is being managed by the Community Foundation of the CSRA and called the Haitian Children’s Fund.
