    Betty Walpert teaches advanced-level Acting, Costume Design and Theatre History at Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School in Augusta, Georgia. In her 25th year in the classroom, Ms. Walpert was recognized as an Honorable Mention recipient for the Tony award for the 2017 “Excellence in Theatre Education Award”Only twenty other teachers across the nation received this honor! Ms. Walpert is also an inductee into the GA Thespian 'Hall of Fame' for her years of service with the GA Thespians. 
    Additional honors include induction into the Georgia Thespian 'Hall of Fame',  the ‘Women of Excellence’  “Arts” Award presented by Girl Scouts of America, Inc., ‘Best Local Actress by Augusta Magazine (twice), the Greater Augusta Arts Council “Arts Professional of the Yearaward, the SETC ‘William E Wilson’ Award winner and the US Army Commanders Award for Civilian Service. She has been recognized with Richmond County’s Sallie Mae First-Class Teacher Awardand as DFA’s Teacher of the Year, and Star Teacher.
    DFA Drama has performed by invitation at the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland, the largest arts festival in the world, where they received rave international reviews for their production of Dark of the Moon. And, Ms Walpert and her students traveled to the International Thespian Festival in Lincoln, Nebraska where DFA Drama students performed The Crucible in June 2017 as a ‘Chapter Select’ production for Georgia!
    Ms. Walpert is a four-time recipient of the GA Theatre Conference Best Director award, with Davidson Fine Arts Drama winning Best Show on seven occasions at GTC. Most recently, her production of A Wrinkle in Time, was the State AA One-Act play First Place winner and Ernest and the Pale Moon won First Place at State One-Act Play, Georgia Theatre Conference 'Best Play' winner, and the Georgia representative to the 2018 Southeastern Theatre Conference. Appearing seven times as Georgia’s rep for SETC, DFA Drama has won first place once at SETC with Wiley and the Hairy Man, and runner-up with A Thurber Carnival. Also, Mrs. Walpert co-directed with Heather Davidson, the DFA production of Music Man which won 2nd Place for the American Prize in Musical Theatre Performance, 2014.
    Outside of the classroom, Mrs. Walpert is very active in her local community. She is a graduate of Leadership Augusta, and has received significant recognition for over 30 years of providing outstanding entertainment to our military service members and their families. She has appeared in regional and local television commercials as well as over 75 stage appearances with many companies.
    Ms. Walpert absolutely loves teaching and mentoring young people and feels so lucky to work at such an amazing school with such amazing colleagues at Davidson Fine Arts! She holds a BFA in Theatre Performance from Auburn University and a MS in Theatre Education from Florida State University. She shares her love of the Education and the Arts with proud husband Steve, daughters Kate and Sarah, and grandbabies Finley and Ayla.
