    Hello Dancers!!!

I hope you had a great Spring Break and Easter and that you are staying safe during this time!  I definitely miss all of you so much!

    Kindergarten - 2nd Grade

Lower grades, you will talk about emotions! We talked about emotions earlier this year and how important they are to dance.  We went over happy, sad, angry, scared, and excited and learned a small dance to go with each one.  Your assignment this week is to watch the posted videos and tell me what emotions go with each one.  You can email me with the answers.  The email can look like this:

    Video 1: Sad

    Video 2: Happy

    Video 3: Scared

Challenge: Make up a dance with one of the emotion.  Make sure you show the emotion on your face. Send me the video!

    April 14th - 17th Assignment

    3rd - 5th Grade

This week, we will be doing Inferences.  We went over inferences last semester. We watch the Pixar shorts first (La Luna, Birds on a Wire, Lifted, Lost & Found). An inference is a conclusion made from what you know, your thoughts, and what you see. We made inferences about dance performances we watched to predict what we think the dance was about.  There is always a story behind a dance and our job is to figure it out! We use clues from the dance to support our guess (an educated guess).  I will be posting 3 videos this week. Please ONLY PICK 2 videos to watch and come up with an inference (guess what the dance is about).  Your inference must have 3 forms of evidence from the video.  REMEMBER THE DANCE IS NOT ABOUT A DANCE. The dance is telling a story. The story is NOT about dancing.

I will post an example of an inference below so you have a reminder/idea of what you need to do. Please email me your inferences from the 2 videos including your 3 pieces of evidence/clues from the video to support what you guessed.  The due date is Sunday, April 19th.

Challenge: With the video you didn't choose, ask your parents/family to come up with inferences and evidence! Compare to see if you all got the same inference!

    April 14th - 17th Assignment

    Example of an Inference:

Watch this video: Turn Down 4 What

Inference: I think that the dance is about a voodoo man that is controlling a doll.

Evidence 1: The man looks like the Shadow Man from Princess and the Frog.

Evidence 2: The woman is dressed like a doll.

Evidence 3: Throughout the performnce, the man seems to be controlling the woman.

    Hey everyone!

    Hello!

Hope you are staying safe and finding joy in this weird time.  I miss you all so much! Feel free to reach out, I'll respond as quickly as I can.

If you sent your assignment videos, I am watching them and responding with feedback so be on the lookout for a response.  They are taking little more time because I am responding with a video for each student.  Extra, I know but I want to be more personal than just an email.  You will receive a response this week.

This week will be a chill week! There are students who are still working to complete the first week of assignments for Specials as well as their classwork so I will make this week a semi-break week.

I know many of you have heard of the "Something New" Challenge on Tik Tok.  Even celebrities are doing it! This week, find time to spend with your family learning and doing the challenge.  Take a video and send it to me! I would love to see you having fun with your family.  I plan to get a video with my family (no guarantees but I will try!).

March 30th - April 3rd Distance Learning Assignment

Stay safe! Wash your hands! I love you all! And I'm looking forward to seeing your videos!!

    Hello Dancers!!!

    March 23, 2020

Welcome to Week 2 of Distance Learning for Dance! Hope you all are staying safe and enjoying your time with family!

SPECIAL SHOUTOUT to Kaitlyn Smyre in Ms. Fowler's class for being the only upper grade student to complete the challenge!!!!

    Great job, Kaitlyn!!!!

This week, we're looking at choreography again but in a different way.  We will be creating small dances of our own by randomly putting dance moves together.  You will need a deck of cards and possibly some paper and pen/pencil to write down the dance so you can remember it. You'll also need a way to take a video of the dance you created.  Remember from last week, choreography is a created dance and the person who creates the dance is the choreographer.

This assignment is not due until Sunday, March 29th to give you time to complete and get a video.

    Hello Dancers!!!

    March 16, 2020

Welcome to my blog! I will be posting here once a week to keep you all updated with what is happening in dance and new assignments that will be due.  I will separate by grade levels so that you know exactly what needs to be done!

Assignment links will be in this color in each blog post and will give instruction on how and what needs to be complete.

Definitions will be in this color.

Materials needed to complete assignments will be in this color.

There will also be a challlenge for the students to complete that parents can also get involved in. These will be in this color!

I'm so excited to learn, grow, and discover through distance learning! As always, any questions, comments, or concerns, my contact information is located at the bottom of this post.

This week, we are doing choreography! Choreography is a created dance. Before we let out of school, we were creating dances in class. The Kindergarteners - 2nd Graders were creating dances as a class while the 3rd - 5th Graders were in small groups creating their dance, turning us all into choreographers or people who create dances. Because of this, we will be learning dances this week.  There are YouTube videos that are located at the link below in red.  You can use a phone, tablet, computer, or even SmartTV to view the videos and learn the dances.
