Mrs. Caroline Phillips
Hello! I am very happy to be the music teacher at McBean Elementary! Music education is my passion, and opening the doorway for students to experience music brings me much satisfaction and joy.
I took piano lessons when I was in 3rd and 4th grade, and joined the school choir when I was in 7th grade. I remained in choir throughout my school years, and resumed piano lessons in the 10th grade. At the end of my 10th grade year I was selected to be in the SC Governor's School for the Arts in piano. In 1990 I began college at Lander University where I majored in Music Education with an emphasis in piano and voice. In 1993 I participated in an international exchange program with the University of Plymouth in England. I graduated from Lander with a Bachelors in Music Education in April of 1994.
I began my teaching career in Laurens District 55 Schools in the fall of 1994. I spent the first 7 years there teaching middle school chorus half a day and high school chorus and group piano the other half of the day. The next 5 years I taught exclusively middle school, during which time I went through the rigorous process of becoming a National Board Certified teacher in 2004.
In 2006, I accepted a position at Blythewood Middle School in Richland District Two. Also in 2006 I completed a masters degree in Music Education from the University of South Carolina. In 2008, I married my sweetheart and moved to Georgia to be with him. I also began working for the Richmond County Board of Education in 2008. I was first at a middle school, and am currently at McBean Elementary.
