Welcome Letter
Welcome to 6th Grade English/Language Arts. This class will include stategies to improve skills in reading literature and informational texts, writing, speaking and listenting, as well as all aspects of the English language. The following units will be explored throughout the academic school year;
Unit 1: Getting to Know You
Unit 2: How Do We Form Friendships?
Unit 3: What Makes Someone Effective or Successful?
Unit 4: Argument with Logic, Kindness & Respect
Unit 5: How Can We Overcome Adversity?
It is very important that you assist your child in the reading and writing experiences they will partake in this year.
There are three major aspects to your child's educational success in my class. Those are behavior, academics, and growth. Your child will be expected to complete all assignments on time and in a neat and presentable manner. Your child is expected to behave in such a way that you can be proud of. I also expect your child to allow their classmates ample time to learn and complete their assignments. One of the most important things I will be promopting is that they take pride in both their work and behavior.
Our classroom rules will be posted in front of the room (above the Promethean board) to which we will all comply. We will also comply with the Richmond County Student Discipline Guide and the Hornsby Middle School Student procedures. Your child will treat others with respect. This is non-negotiable.
Your child's academic expectations in this class are also simple. Complete all assignments and submit them when they are due. The class assignments will include written tasks, performance tasks, group work, tests, quizzes and projects. Your child will be tested before during and after each unit. These tests are designed to prove their mastery of the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) that when completed, will show we are ready to move on to the next unit.
We are all partners in your child's education. Be aware that I am generally at work by 8:15 a.m. If parent conferences are needed for either academics, behavior or both please contact the school at (706) 823-6928, in scheduling a conference as needed. My sincere thanks in advance for work we will do together, not to mention the fun we will have doing it.
