• Welcome Letter

We are currently a candidate for the IB Primary Years Program. Please visit our HES website for more information. We are very happy to meet you and look forward to working with you and your child this school year.

You are welcome to visit our school and classroom whenever you feel the need. We encourage you to please become a volunteer so that you can attend field trips with us, or other events that may need adult supervision. You must sign in at the front office when visiting.

Our daily schedule consists of:  Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science, Lunch, Recess and Specials.  Each student will be given a reading book, math book, science and social studies book which are kept at school. Books are not to be taken home.

Attendance:  Attendance is required for all students. Perfect attendance will be awarded to students during Honor’s Day and throughout the year. Attendance is very important in your child’s ability to learn. Please arrive to school on time. Send a written note every time your child is absent or tardy in order for it to be excused.

Behavior: In our school, Class Do Jo will be our main way of communication. Students can earn Do Jo Bucks for positive behavior to use in the Do Jo Store. We will also reward good behavior in the classroom weekly and provide incentives and treats accordingly.

Homework Choice Board:  Homework is very important. Students will be given a choice of six homework assignments weekly from which they will be able to choose and complete four and return to school daily. Homework will be given in reading and math.

Field Trips: We will be taking field trips this school year.  There will be some cost but we will try to offer a plan that will be economically feasible. More information will be sent about this at a later date.

Grades: We have standards that must adhere to Georgia State laws. We do not give numerical grades. Students’ report card, will reflect standard based grading: 4- Distinguished 3- Proficient (target) 2- Developing and 1- Beginning

Graded Papers: I will send home graded papers to review, sign and return within the same week. This is so that you will be aware of your child’s progress.

Your child is very precious to us. When we make mistakes, we take it to heart and take the upset very personally. Please know that we will do all that we can to make this a very successful and happy school year for your child.   We are available during our planning. We will let you know our days and time. You can reach us at townsfr@boe.richmond.k12.ga.us and clarkpa@boe.richmond.k12.ga.us or visit our class web pages at our Hephzibah Elementary School web site.

    Thank you,
