Biology Distance Learning Assignments

  • April 15, 2020

Per our staff meeting yesterday afternoon, Q4 grades will only benefit students. If your Q3 grade is passing and you do not wish to improve, you can take that grade as your semester grade. However, if your Q3 grade is failing or not what you would like, you have two options: If you finish the work I have provided for Q4 that grade will average with your Q3 for a final grade or you can finish the Q3 grade repair on blended learning. I will be trying my best to contact each of you over the next few days to make sure it is clear what you should be doing. If you have any questions or concerns, please, let me know.

  • March 30 - April 3 (Past Due)

Complete the following choice board (Biology Distance Learning March 30 - April 3) and send pictures or digital copies of your final projects to me through remind (https://www.remind.com/join/basilbio) or by email (basilth@boe.richmond.k12.ga.us). This should only take you about 2 hours over the entire week. It is due April 3rd.

Instructions for Choice-Board Clarified: You need to pick at least one from each column and what you pick has to add up to 7 points. So if you pick correctly you could do 3 at the least but you could do more small projects to add up to 7 or even go above 7 points for extra credit

General Information

  • Remind: (Biology) Text @basilbio to 81010

Course Description: Biology is an in depth, year long course in biological principles that influence the lives of all living organisms. This course is a laboratory course that will teach lab safety, microscope use, and other lab principles in addition to teaching state prescribed standards. Biology has an End of Course (EOC) assessment which counts as 20% of students’ final grade. All students are required to take the EOC to pass this course. This is a required course that must be passed in order to meet graduation requirements.

Course Assessment Plan/ Grading Scale/Grade Recovery: Standards-Based Grading will be using. The paper attached explaining Standards-Based grading or you may use this link: https://tinyurl.com/yywqym7x

In standards based grading the student’s grade is based only on assessments, homework and classwork are just practice. Each standard will make up an equal portion of the student’s grade and each standard will have several assessments as evidence of content mastery.

*At the conclusion of the course in early May all Biology students will be expected to take the End of Course (EOC) which will count as 20% of their final grade.

*Grade recovery is the responsibility of the student. If they have a low assessment grade they must arrange a time to make up this grade. Grade recovery for a previous nine weeks will be handled on a case by case basis because students have so many opportunities to fix their grades during the nine weeks.
