DAVIDSON FINE ARTS DRAMA DEPARTMENT

Heather Davidson, MS &HS Drama Educator/Director/Producer
Drama Fundamentals 1,2,3 & Musical Theatre.
Dear Drama Students/Parents/Guardians,
Due to the unexpected closure of schools, we have all been trying to figure out the best way to deal with distance learning issues without penalizing students for something out of their control. The Richmond County Board of Education sent out an update on Wednesday, which you may have seen in the Augusta Chronicle. I am going to try to clarify the main points as they affect my Drama students.
First, for High School Students, final averages for the school year will be calculated by averaging coursework completed the first three nine-weeks before the closure on March 16, 2020. For example:
1st nine-weeks – 85 + 2nd – 75 + 3rd – 80 = 240 240 ÷ 3 = 80
Second, students will not take final exams for high school courses; therefore, final exams will not be counted in the final course average.
Third, all work completed after March 16, 2020 will be for remediation and/or enrichment purposes only and will not negatively affect the student’s final grade. On the other hand, if a student would like to improve their grade, they can continue to do assignments online. Teachers will consider the overall body of work completed during distance learning and complete a final grade override if the work causes the students’ final numeric average to improve.
Finally, please respond to this announcement by Wednesday, April 22nd, 2020 by emailing me at: Davidhe@boe.richmond.k12.ga.us and letting me know if you are satisfied with your current final average of the first three nine-weeks and would like to maintain your current average (most of you, I am sure) or if you would like to continue to work on assignments that will potentially improve your average in HS Drama.
***For Middle School students, if you wish to continue with Drama enrichment projects, you will not receive a grade for your work. It will be only for the fun of doing the projects! All of my Drama MS students have at least a final average of a ‘B’, so they will receive a ‘Pass’ grade for their enrichment work during the 4th 9 weeks. There will be no grade changes for MS students.
Either way, I plan to continue the enrichment part of the “assignments” through the Microsoft Office Teams and on my teacher page. There is a fun audition for Nickelodeon coming up that you will have the opportunity to send in, if you continue with enrichment!
Don’t forget to let me know your decision by email by Wednesday, April 22, 2020. Take good care of yourselves. Read plays, research and teach theatre games to others! Miss you all! Heather Davidson
