Volunteer training is made available to individuals interested in volunteering in the Richmond County School System (RCSS). Volunteers may help with classroom activities, computer labs, field trips, office duties, storytelling and tutoring, just to name a few.

You may volunteer at the school(s) of your choice.  Typically, volunteer training is held at the school site of choice, unless informed otherwisePlease contact the school in which you wish to volunteer for a training schedule.  In instances where the school(s) you wish to volunteer does not conduct volunteer training, please contact Jamel Miller for a district training schedule (of which is attached at the bottom of this page). Volunteer cards are issued by the RCSS's Central Office within a timely period. Volunteer cards are valid at any Richmond County School.

All volunteers who wish to mentor or tutor students, chaperone or drive for field trips, work in the school office, classroom, media center or computer labs MUST complete a background check that is processed in the School Safety Department. The background check is administered by the RCSS's Central Office at no cost. Moreover, all personal information is confidential.

Parents, grandparents, guardians, and other appropriate relatives wishing to help with class parties, field days, book fairs, carnivals, spaghetti suppers or eat in the lunchroom, with a student, are not required to attend training, nor be cleared through a background check.

The Volunteer Coordinator is Valerie Brown. Mrs. Brown oversees the entire process from the beginning. She administers the volunteer cards and can answer questions related to the overall volunteer process. However, Jamel Miller in the Student Services Department conducts the volunteer training.  For specific details regarding volunteering, please contact Mrs. Brown @ 706-826-1310, X 5381 or at .
