Ms. Scondria Akerele
Title: Special Education Teacher
Greetings! My name is Scondria Akerele and I am the SWD teacher for 4th grade for the 2019-2020 school year. I honored and deeply humbled to be allowed the privilege of serving these wonderful GEMS!
A Bit About Me
I graduated from Louisiana State University with a B.A. in German. A lifelong dream of serving my community led me to become a teacher. I have been a teacher for seven years. I have taught Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade, as well as Special Education for 4th grade and 5th grade. I am a mother of five wonderful children, two girls and three boys. I enjoy reading, cooking, dancing (not very well), and learning new things. My ultimate goal is to help the students in my care become both successful citizens as well as lifelong learners.
My Instructional Philsophy
I am a firm believer that every student can learn, regardless of their learning ability. Teaching and learning is a team sport, so teachers, parents, and the students themselves have to work together to achieve student success. As long as the students try their very best, they shall be successful!
What I Teach
I will be teaching two subjects this school year- English Language Arts and Math. As the SWD teacher, I will be working in collaboration with the 4th grade general education teachers in order to assist the students in meeting their educational goals. In ELA, I will be reinforcing foundational skills such as phonics and phonemic awareness, the comprehension of both literary and informational passages, vocabulary, and writing skills. In Math, I will be reinforcing skills in fluency, teaching computation strategies, and improving the students ability to solve both and real word problems.
