  •      Betty Walpert teaches advanced-level Acting, Costume Design and Theatre History at Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School in Augusta, Georgia. In her 29th year in the classroom, Ms. Walpert was recognized as an Honorable Mention recipient for the Tony award for the 2017 “Excellence in Theatre Education Award”Only twenty other teachers across the nation received this honor! Ms. Walpert is also an inductee into the GA Thespian 'Hall of Fame' for her years of service with the GA Thespians. 

         Additional honors include the ‘Women of Excellence’  “Arts” Award presented by Girl Scouts of America, Inc., ‘Best Local Actress by Augusta Magazine (twice), the Greater Augusta Arts Council “Arts Professional of the Year” award, the SETC ‘William E Wilson’ Award winner and the US Army Commanders Award for Civilian Service. She has been recognized with Richmond County’s Sallie Mae First-Class Teacher Awardand as DFA’s Teacher of the Year, and Star Teacher.

         Ms. Walpert is a four-time recipient of the Georgia Theatre Conference Best Director award, with Davidson Fine Arts Drama winning Best Show on seven occasions at the Georgia Theatre Conference. Under her direction, DFA Drama has also won numerous "Best Show" awards at Region and State One-Act competitions. Most recently, Davidson was the 2021 AA State One-Act Play Champions with the show The Terrible Infants. Appearing seven times as Georgia’s rep for the Southeastern Theatre Conference, DFA Drama has won first place once at SETC with Wiley and the Hairy Man, and runner-up in the Southeast with A Thurber Carnival. Davidson Fine Arts HS Drama students attended the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and performed Dark of the Moon, receiving stellar reviews from international theatre critics.

         Outside of the classroom, Mrs. Walpert is very active in her local community. She is a graduate of Leadership Augusta, and has received significant recognition for over 30 years of providing outstanding entertainment to our military service members and their families. She has appeared in regional and local television commercials as well as over 75 stage appearances with many companies.

         Ms. Walpert absolutely loves teaching and mentoring young people and feels so lucky to work at such an amazing school with such amazing colleagues! She shares her love of Education and the Arts with proud husband Steve, daughters Kate and Sarah, and grandbabies Finley and Ayla.
