• I would like to welcome all new and returning DFA students and parents to what I hope will be a great school year for everyone. This is my sixteenth year at DFA and I have seen an amazing amount of growth and change in that time.

    2001: A New Odyssey

I earned my Bachelor in Fine Arts in Graphic Design from Georgia Southern University in 2001. Shortly before graduation and completing my Georgia Teacher Certification, I had the great fortune of student teaching at DFA. My mentor teacher at the time was well known Augusta art educator, Ms. Roseanne Stutts.

Shortly after graduation, I was offered the new position of graphic arts/visual arts teacher here at DFA. When I first began teaching, the graphic design curriculum consisted of a single class, Graphic Design 1, and a half dozen very old PC's. Today a DFA student has the opportunity to take a digital design course from 6-12th grade learning 21st century curriculum on up-to-date hardware and software.

During my time here at DFA, I have also continued to work as a freelance graphic artist and completed my Master's in Teacher Leadership at Augusta University in 2015.

    Vision Statement

With the support of the school, district, and community, we have built the graphic arts pathway into an award-winning, professional preparation program that allows young, driven designers to immediately begin work as graphic artists or enter top collegiate design programs with advanced design knowledge and training.

Looking forward, I feel that designers will need to be equally prepared to design for both 2D and 3D canvases. With this in mind, I am in my third year of teaching 3D modeling and animation. Students have been introduced to, and will continue to work with, Blender 3D, an amazing open-source (free) software. Advanced students will also be introduced to Unity this year. Unity is also open-source and geared toward game and interactive design. Along with new software, students will continue to be trained in industry standard design softwares such as Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
