Ms. Delois D. Scott
Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome to 7th Grade Life Science home of “The Falcons” at Belair Middle School! I am honored to have your child in my Life Science class, and I am excited to work with you and your child throughout the 2024-2025 school year. I believe that life science is engaging and important for 7th graders because it fosters curiosity about the natural world and helps students understand the fundamental processes that govern living organisms. By exploring topics such as cell structure, ecosystems, genetics, ecology, evolution, and human biology, students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills that are essential for success in various fields. Life Science encourages an appreciation for the environment and informs future decisions about health and sustainability, which are crucial for their overall success in life.
This year your son or daughter will be using a variety of textbooks, online resources, worksheets, reading comprehensive literacy, videos, and instructional materials to help them achieve proficiency in life science content. They will also have many opportunities to apply what they have learned in lessons through various lab investigations and activities, which can be fun and highly engaging. Science is a universal subject that spans the branch of knowledge that examines the structure and behavior of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment.
My goal is to create an in-classroom learning environment to help your child:
- Engineering and the concept of the design process
- Promote Literacy
-Develop a strong science vocabulary using POWER words
- Build a solid foundation of science concepts and understanding
- Make connections among science literacy and other investigative academic areas
- Utilize technology to learn more about science
- Apply mathematics to problem solving in science expressions and the world around us
- Develop critical thinking skills and the ability to challenge assumptions, think creatively, and solve real-life problems using science techniques and experiences
-Enjoy learning!
