    • I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself and express my excitement about working with your child this year. My name is Marisol Garcia-Mitchell and I am your child’s new Spanish teacher at Butler High School. We are beginning an exciting journey together as your child learns more about the Spanish language and culture.  I was born in Panama Republic of Panama. I graduated from the University of Panama with a degree in International relations. After I graduated, I have had the opportunity to work as a Consul Assistant in Shanghai-China. A year later, I moved to San Antonio Texas where I married a former American army soldier in 1998. My first son was born in 2000 and my daughter was born in 2003. In 2004, my family and I decided to move to Augusta Georgia. The same year, I decided to initiate a second career. Successfully, I obtained a second degree in Spanish with a minor in education K-12 at Augusta State University. During my school years at Augusta State University, I worked as a Lab tutor for the Foreign Languages department. I was also awarded as "Student Teacher of the Year" by The American Association of teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (Georgia Chapter) AATSP-GA. I became part of The Butler Bulldogs family in 2014. In 2018 I was honored to be selected as Teacher of the Year for the 2018-2019 academic year.

Teaching Spanish is my life and passion and maybe this comes across a little bit in my lessons and correspondence! I am passionate about teaching the Spanish language and have created unique lessons which incorporate current events, music, literature, games, poetry, Latino folk and pop culture, all with much conversation throughout, to make students fluent in Spanish while being creative and cultural.

I believe Spanish is a beautiful language, and learning a second language is going to be important as your child grows up in this ever-expanding global economy. I ask that you support me by positively reinforcing to your child the importance of expanding their horizons in this manner.

I love my work and look forward to learning and growing with my students! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me @ GarciMa1@richmond.k12.ga.us.
