Dear Parents and Guardians,
My name is Ms. Brouse. I am very excited to have the opportunity to teach your child science and social studies this year. I believe that teachers need to work closely with parents and students to provide a positive atmosphere of communication and consistency. There is a quote that says, “The start of something new brings the hope of something great. Anything is Possible.” I will work diligently to educate your child so the first year here at Pine Hill will be a time of growth and success.
This year’s Science theme is Earth Science. We are beginning a Geology Unit which includes the identification and formation of rocks, minerals, and fossils. Your son/daughter will be reading, writing, and exploring various aspects of all of these topics within the geology unit. Later units will include Weathering and Erosion, Inside the Earth, Water, Climate and Weather, and the Solar system. I have shared the fact that Science Fair Projects are a requirement for all middle school students. Students should begin thinking about a possible project idea. I would love to have some unique projects this year. Think outside the box and try to create a project like no other project at the fair! I will send home a packet of all the information you will need to assist your child with the project which will be assigned sometime in October to be finished right after the Christmas holiday, but for now, just start thinking of ideas for a topic. Students are given homework each night from Mon.-Fri.
In Social Studies, we will study Latin America, Canada, Europe, and Australia. The geography domain includes both physical and human geography. The intent of the geography domain is to begin to grasp the importance geography plays in everyday lives. The government/civics domain focuses on selected types of government found in the various areas in order to understand the variety of governments in the world. The economics focus to how other countries answer the basic questions of economics. The history domain focuses on major events in each region during the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.
Both classes will have an interactive notebook.
If your child should ever tell you they do not have homework; please check this page daily for assignments or educational videos for current class topics/unit.
Students are given homework each night from Mon.-Fri.
I am confident that we are going to have a productive and successful school year. I thank you in advance for your support, and I look forward to a terrific year here at Pine Hill Middle School!
