Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) retired (R) Thomas Murphy, Jr. graduated from South Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. He received his Masters of Arts Degree in Business Management & Supervision from Central Michigan University. He is also a graduate of the U.S. Army Command & General Staff College. LTC (R) Murphy was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Medical Service Corps upon graduating from college. He served two tours of duty overseas in Belgium (3years) and South Korea (2 years). He had a distinguished military career (22 years) beginning as a Medical Platoon Leaders and culminating as a Human Resource Officer and Health Care Administrator. He has earned numerous military awards and decorations to include the Legion of Merits, which is the highest peacetime award a soldier can earn. He became the Senior Army Instructor at Lucy C. Laney in 1998. His JROTC Department/Battalion has ranked in the top 15% of all Army JROTC units in the Nation over the years.
