"Ms S" is a single mom, an avid quilter, and enjoys watching science documentaries in her free time. She has a black Lab/Bassett mix named Carbon and a Beagle named Piermont. When people ask her how to pronounce her last name, she says, "Skrobisz rhymes with Rubbish...but I'm not"
Ms S has a B.S. Biology: Vertebrate Physiology degree with a minor in Community Health Education from Penn State Universithy and an MAT, Masters of Arts in Teaching from Augusta University. Ms S has taught math and science since 1997 including Health, Biology, Life Science, Anatomy and Physiology, Forensics, Chemistry, Physical Science, Physics, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I & II, Geometry, College Algebra and GED prep. Before DFA, she worked at a small private school.
Ms S is also a published freelance writer and poet. Her parenting, adoption, and family related articles have appeared in local periodicals, several magazines, an adoption website, and a blog. She has won several local poetry contests, a poetry scholarship as a student, and has had a poem published in an anthology, Colors of Life.
Ms S also boasts some musical talent. She has played piano for thirty years and sang in choirs, ensembles, worship teams and at a few weddings for twenty-five years. She was awarded a scholarship to attend Juniata college as a joint major of music and science but declined the opportunity, citing science as her true love and professional pursuit. If you are lucky, you'll catch her on one of her good days, singing in her classroom during planning or before homeroom.
Ms S sponsors Middle School Science Club and Science National Honor Society
Her mantra to life and teaching is "The day I stop learning is the day I die."
