• Course Description: The Richmond County School System believes that educators should have high expectations for all children and that it is our responsibility to help students achieve the academic goals of performing at or above grade level in all subject areas.  This year I am he Early Intervention Program Specialist.  I will work together with the regular classroom teacher to provide supplementary instruction based on the needs or each student.

    Instructional Philosophy :

I believe that cognitive, emotional, and environmental influences, as well as prior experience, all play a part in how understanding is acquired or changed and knowledge and skills are retained.   Math is a daunting subject for many students they have been taught to fear and dislike mathematics.  In the mathematics classroom I think that is very important to foster a sense of safety and security where is okay to not get it right but to keep working until you find a strategy that works well for you. Teaching students to preserve mathematics is a skill that transfers to other aspects of their lives.  Reading is our map to explore the world.  I truly love reading and I hope to foster this love in each of my students.

    Major Course Goals:

Our goal is to help students achieve the academic goals of performing at or above grade level in all subject areas.

    Course Assessment Plan:

The assessment plan is as follows.  There will be a daily ticket in the door, there will also be weekly assessments on the content. I will also observe the students informally to observe their progress.  There will also be unit test at the end of each unit as well as culminating math task and other activities.

    Classroom Expectations:

Students are expected to come to school each day with success in mind.  They are to also be prepared for class, having all materials necessary for learning.  We are all to be respectful of one another and consider others feeling.  Communication is the key to our success!

    Supplies and Materials:

Each student needs a composition notebook for their math journal, a homework folder, paper, pencils, crayons, and glue sticks.
