Mrs. Amanda Holmes
As a young girl, I always knew that I wanted to be a teacher. Born and raised right here in Augusta, Georgia, I went to school in Richmond County. I went to Rollins Elementary, Sego Middle school and graduated from Butler High school. I then attended Georgia Southern University and majored in Secondary English Education. In 2004, I began teaching at Burke County High school where I taught 9th literature and composition, 10th literature and composition, yearbook, tools for college and also coached softball and tennis. In 2010, I began teaching at Cross Creek high school where I taught 9-12 literature and composition, SAT/ACT prep, and coached cheerleading. In 2015, I began teaching at Laney High School where I currently teach American Literature, one 10th Literature and composition class, and AVID. I am also the PBIS Coach and ELA Department Chair.
My teaching pedagogy is to simple connect with students and show them the value of education through literature. I try to incorporate different teaching strategies including A.C.E.S., choice boards, close reading, collaborative activities, partner activities, a variety of technology activities, etc. I want my students to leave my class feeling prepared to take on the world and be successful in whatever path they choose. I look forward to helping each and every student find their path and provide them with the tools they need to achieve every goal.
