  • Happy New Year!

Posted by Jami Britt on 1/2/2019

I hope you all had an awesome Christmas Break and are ready to get back to work! We have a lot to do between now and testing for the Georgia Milestones. I expect you all to continue to do your best at everything that I give you to do. I know you can do it. You are a great group of 6th graders and we need to work together to get you ready for 7th grade.

I have added some new pictures to our Picture Gallery from the STEM project that we were working on before the break. ENJOY!

Report cards go home on the 10th. Some of you may be disappointed with your grades, you may want to keep up better with Infinite Campus to make sure you aren’t missing any assignments. One zero can greatly affect your average. There were TOO MANY zeros this 9 weeks.

I-Ready diagnostics testing will be coming in the next two weeks. All students will need to complete the testing by the 17th of January.

Parents, please take the Georgia Parent Survey at http://gshs.gadoe.org/parents. Your student will be taking the student version in school soon. Belair K-8 School thanks you!

Together, we can finish this year strong! Let’s have a great second semester!

  • Unit 2 Review Sheet

Posted by Jami Britt on 10/28/2018

The Unit 2 Review sheet is now available on my website. The Benchmark 1 test was not a good grade for most students and they need to do well on this one to improve that grade. There are some similar questions, but this is only unit 2, nothing from unit 1 is included. This is a major grade also. The test will be on Friday, November 2nd, the review day will be on Thursday, November 1st. Please ensure your student is ready for the review day with any questions they might have about problems that they don't understand. Questions on test day delay the beginning of the test and have caused some students to not have time to complete the test, therefore, I will not be answering questions on Friday before the test. Good luck!

  • Social Studies book access

Posted by Jami Britt on 9/29/2018

Yesterday, I walked my homeroom students through the steps to locate their Social Studies textbook online and gave them the login and password imformation. They have each saved the login and the password, Australia, will need to be entered any time they need to access the text. I hope to have the login information for the math book soon too.

  • Changes

Posted by Jami Britt on 9/22/2018

I have made a lot of changes this weekend to my website. Several of you have been asking for more ways to assist your student and I hope that some of these changes will help with that.

    • You will find vocabulary sheets for the entire year. Your student will get a copy of each unit and it should be in their interactive notebook as it is covered in class.
    • I have added the end of year study guide. They will receive a copy next week to add to their math 3-ring binder. You can use this to help your child learn what to look for on the GMAS.
    • I have made several changes to the Syllabus to give you more information about what I will be covering for the rest of the year.
    • I added a picture tab where I have placed the pictures from our Grandparents’ Lunch Day. I will add more pictures as we make them.
    • I have added an assignments tab, I will do my best to update this each day.
    • I have added this announcements tab to keep you all updated on different things in the classroom as well as in the school.
    • I have requested log-in information for all students for the math textbook, so that you will be able to see the textbook online. On the days when your child is absent or misplaces their daily sheet, you will be able to see the entire textbook online.

I have also made changes to the grading.

    • Any grade in the gradebook that was less than 60, has been raised to a 60. This will make it easier for students to bring up low grades in the next three weeks before report cards come out. The end of the first 9 weeks is October 11, 2018.
    • The weekly homework quiz has been changed. It is no longer only one question but will be between 5-8 questions each week. The homework answers will still be posted each day and they should check their work to know if they have any questions. I am not allowed to require them to keep up with their work for an entire week.
    • The weekly bell work check will no longer be all five days on Friday. It will be a random day, one day each week. It will not be a grade and your child will no longer be required to keep up with their bell work all week.

I owe you all an apology. I wanted to help your student learn to be more responsible with keeping up with their assignments. I feel that, as their teacher, I need to help them with the transition from elementary school, learn responsibility and independence. By the time they reach high school, they will need many organizational skills. I now place this responsibility back in your hands, as it is not a standard that I can teach or assess. I am sorry for any harm that I have caused your student. I hope that the changes I will begin next week will enable me to still assess their knowledge without stepping outside of teaching the standards that I am allowed to teach. Please feel free to get in touch with me if you think I am overstepping again. Contacting the principal isn't necessary unless you and I can't resolve issues between us. Thank you.

We were informed last week that there was a problem with Infinite Campus and that you all were not able to see individual grades. Several of you had mentioned that to me, I had referred you to the office and I assumed they had fixed the problem.  We were told on Wednesday that the error has been fixed. If you are still not able to see individual grades, please contact the office again and let them know.

If you see any errors to the website or you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Please bear with me as I may not get right back to you.

I hope you all are having a good weekend.
