RCBOE names two finalists for superintendent of schools

The Richmond County Board of Education has named two finalists for the position of Superintendent of Schools for the Richmond County School System. The finalists are Dr. Malinda Cobb, interim superintendent of schools of the Richmond County School System, and Dr. Keith Simmons, former superintendent of the Griffin-Spalding County School System. The Board of Education plans to name the next superintendent on August 12, 2025.

“These finalists reflect the qualities, experience, and leadership we believe are needed to move our school system forward,” said Shawnda Stovall, president of the Richmond County Board of Education. “Our Board has been thoughtful and diligent throughout this process, and we look forward to announcing our new superintendent following our final vote on August 12.”

Before naming the two finalists, the 10-member Board worked in partnership with the Georgia School Boards Association to establish selection criteria and review applications from 35 candidates. From that process, a shortlist of six top contenders was identified. All six candidates were interviewed by the Board.

These finalists have been identified by the Board as the most qualified candidates for the role. Documents submitted as part of each candidate’s application will be available for public inspection and copying, as required by law, on the school district website at rcboe.org/boe.

In accordance with O.C.G.A. § 50-18-72(a)(11), the Board is naming the finalists at least 14 calendar days prior to the meeting at which a final vote will be taken.
