Student Discipline

Welcome to the Office of Student Discipline 

The Office of Student Discipline plays a critical role in supporting safe, inclusive, and positive learning environments for all students across Richmond County Schools.  The Richmond County School System Student Code of Conduct and Discipline is designed to provide guidance that promotes a safe, secure, and orderly learning environment. It establishes standards of behavior for students from the time they leave home to attend school until they return home, as well as whenever they are present on school district property.

The Code of Conduct applies to student behavior on school grounds, while traveling to and from school, during participation in any school-sponsored activity, function, or event, and while riding a school bus or any other transportation provided by the school district.

Additionally, the Richmond County School System reserves the authority to address off-campus conduct that materially and substantially impacts the school environment, school operations, or the safety and welfare of students and staff. Such conduct may include, but is not limited to, the misuse of electronic communications, social media, text messages, or other electronic messaging platforms, as well as alleged felony criminal offenses, regardless of whether the conduct occurred on or off school property.

The Code of Conduct establishes age-appropriate standards for student behavior, a student support framework, and a progressive discipline process. Parents and guardians are encouraged to review this handbook thoroughly with their child to ensure a clear understanding of the expectations for student conduct.

Students are expected to conduct themselves responsibly, demonstrate respect for fellow students and school employees, comply with the student behavior policies adopted by the Board of Education, and follow the behavioral expectations established by their individual schools.

Consistent adherence to these expectations helps foster a safe, supportive, and nurturing learning environment that promotes academic success and positive outcomes for all students.
