2026-2027 Enrollment Information

Age Requirements

To be eligible for Georgia's Pre-K program, children must be four years of age on or before September 1, 2026, based on acceptable age documentation. Only children whose birthdates are from September 2, 2021, through September 1, 2022 are eligible for participation in the 2026–2027 school year. Parents are encouraged to consider the child’s date of birth, physical maturity, emotional maturity, and prior experiences when making the decision to enroll a child in the Pre-K program.

Frequently Asked Questions

I applied for the lottery. What are the next steps?

You will receive an email with next steps by the end of the day on April 24th. If your child is offered a slot, your child's school will call you to set up a registration appointment. Please bring the required documents to your registration appointment. If your child is placed on the waiting list, the school will reach out if a slot becomes available.

My child was accepted into a school. Why have I not heard from the school?

The school will begin contacting accepted applicants by April 25th. If you have not received a call or email from the school by May 8th, please contact the school directly.

My child was placed on a waiting list. Where am I on the waiting list?

The waiting lists are maintained at each school and are updated daily. Please contact the school directly for any waitlist questions. When a slot becomes available, the school will contact the next person on the waiting list. A child can be placed on multiple waiting lists at any time. 

My contact information has changed. How will the school contact me?

If you applied for the lottery and your contact information has been updated, please contact the schools you requested directly.

If my child was placed on a waiting list at one school, can I still register at a different school?

Yes. Registering at a school does not affect your spot on the waiting list at another school.

Can I place my child on multiple waiting lists?

Yes. You are able to place your child on multiple waiting lists. 

I did not apply for the Pre-K lottery. Can I still register my child for Pre-K?

All of our Pre-K sites maintain a waiting list of students who are interested in attending. You will need to contact the school you are interested in directly and request that your child's name be placed on the waiting list. The site will contact you directly if a slot becomes available for your child.

Georgia law requires that children must be five years old on or before September 1 to enroll in kindergarten and six years old on or before September 1 to enroll in first grade in public schools. A child who has lived in another state for at least two years before moving to Georgia and was legally enrolled in a public kindergarten or first grade in that state, may enroll in a Georgia public school kindergarten or first grade, provided the child will be five for kindergarten and six for first grade by December 31. 

Students new to Richmond County Schools, including transfers from in-state and out-of-state schools, should complete the online registration first. If you prefer to register in-person, you can find the school that you are zoned for and make an appointment.

To register your child online, please complete all the pages in the online registration application. 

• Print or write down the Application or Confirmation number.
• New 2025-26: The online registration application includes a required Enrollment Disclosure Form that must be completed for all students enrolling in grades 4 - 12.

The following documents will need to be submitted to your child’s school after the online registration is completed.

**The Eye, Ear, and Dental Form and the Immunization Form may be obtained from any Georgia Health Department, Eisenhower Medical Center at Fort Eisenhower, or any Georgia pediatrician's office or clinic. 

Families who have moved from one RCSS attendance zone to another attendance zone are eligible to transfer to their new zoned school. All other students are required to attend their zoned school except in cases of extreme hardship. Visit our House Bill 251 page for more information.

To enroll in your new zoned school, start by updating your address and contact information in the Infinite Campus Parent Portal.

In addition to updating your information, contact your new zoned school and provide the following documentation:

• Latest copy of student's report card or withdrawal form

• Legal guardian's photo ID

• Proof of Residency (Provide a current utility bill and one item from the list below)

Georgia law requires parents or guardians who teach children at home to submit to the Georgia Department of education (GADOE) an online Declaration of Intent Form. A Declaration of Intent must be submitted to the Georgia Department of Education within 30 days after the establishment of a home student program and by September 1 annually thereafter. The school will also need a copy of this form.

HOW DO I WITHDRAW MY CHILD FROM THEIR SCHOOL?

For all withdrawals please contact your school directly for assistance with the withdrawal process. 

1. Richmond County Schools requires 24 hours to complete the withdrawal packet from the time you make the request.  However, this process can take longer pending the principal’s approval.

2. Upon the finalized withdrawal, the student(s) is/are to return all textbooks, library books, athletic uniforms, and/or any other school-provided supplies or equipment.
3. Failure to return school property may delay the release of the withdrawal packet.
4. You may drop off, mail or fax your request to the last school your child was enrolled in. 
5. The school staff will notify you when your records are available.
6. A records request will be required from the school in which your child is enrolling to release records. We need to know the name of the school or if outside Georgia, the name of the state your student will be attending.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO WITHDRAW A STUDENT?

The end of a quarter marking period is GOOD, the end of a semester is BETTER; however, the end of the school year or during the summer is BEST. Dates for the quarter marking periods and semester breaks can be found on the district school calendar. We recommend you call your new school prior to withdrawing your student. You will want to know if they are on a traditional semester schedule, block, or trimester schedule. Transferring mid-year can be difficult for a student and a primary concern is the student does not lose credit. Students who request to leave prior to the end of a school year or a semester may not be able to receive credit for courses. Please check with the new school in advance.

WHO CAN WITHDRAW A STUDENT?

Generally, the enrolling custodial parent or a legal court-appointed guardian can withdraw a student. Be prepared to present a driver’s license and in some instances, a certified copy of a court order. Verification will be made to ensure you are on the student’s personal information card. The person who is the emergency contact can only withdraw a student if they are the custodial parent or legal court-appointed guardian. 

WHAT WILL RCSS NEED ONCE YOU WITHDRAW?

Richmond County Schools must receive verification that your child is enrolled from your new school. Your new school should send a Records Request within ten (10) days of withdrawal unless you are homeschooling your child.  In the event that a child is withdrawn from a public school to attend a home student program and does not have a Home School Program Declaration of Intent filed pursuant to Code Section 20-2-690 within 45 days of such withdrawal, the school shall refer the matter to the Division of Family and Children Services of the Department of Human Services to conduct an assessment.

THINGS THAT CAN ASSIST TO ENSURE A SMOOTH TRANSITION

• Tell us when your child will be leaving as early as possible.

• Tell us where you are going and the name of your child's new school and the city, state.

• Call ahead to determine if your child's new school has special programs available, uses block or traditional scheduling (secondary), or is a magnet school.
• Call to discuss withdrawal procedures with the appropriate school personnel at your child's school.
• When you get to the new school if you need further information or have questions, do not hesitate to call your previous school. 

WHAT IS AN OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT?

An official transcript is stamped and sealed. The official transcript is mailed to the school that submits the Record Request.

WHAT ARE WITHDRAWAL GRADES?

These are grades submitted by each teacher indicating grades the student has earned up to the time they left their class. The new school will need these grades to give the teachers some guidance as to how the student is performing in that class. Not all grades may transfer. It may depend on the availability of classes at the new school.

WHAT ABOUT ANY ABSENCES ACCUMULATED? 

Absences your child has accumulated through the current semester may carry over to the new school.

The Richmond County School System works to ensure that your child receives the best possible education. Therefore, if you are a family in transition, which includes the following living arrangements or shared housing:

• Reside in a house or apartment with parent or guardian
• Reside in a motel, car, or campsite
• Reside in a shelter or other temporary housing
• Reside with friends or family members (other than or in addition to parent/guardian)

If the student's family is residing in the home or apartment of another individual, not due to economic reasons and/or undue hardships, the person with whom the family is living and whose name matches the proof of residence must present these documents for enrollment:

• Notarized third-person affidavit of residency
• Photo ID of person with whom the family is residing
• Proof of Residency matching the name and address of person with whom the family is residing
• Inclusion of person with whom the family is residing as a contact on the registration form

Georgia Immunization Requirements for Childcare and School Attendance

Your child needs to be up-to-date on immunizations to enter school or attend childcare. Georgia law requires that all children who attend childcare and enter school be protected against the following diseases: diphtheria, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, Haemophilus influenzae Type b (Hib), measles, mumps, rubella, pertussis, tetanus, varicella (chickenpox), polio, pneumococcal, and meningococcal disease.

Georgia requirements are based on the schedule recommended by doctors and scientists: the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the American Academy of Family Physicians. There are other shots that are not required for school attendance but are highly recommended by doctors for all children.

A Parent’s Responsibility Protect Your Child from Disease

• Schedule regular checkups as recommended by your child’s healthcare provider
• Ask your child’s healthcare provider about the vaccines your child needs
• Obtain a new Georgia Certificate of Immunization (Form 3231) every time your
   child has a shot
• Give a copy of the Georgia Certificate of Immunization (Form 3231) to your childcare provider or school.

Protecting your child from the disease may be the most important thing you can do for their health. Immunizations help keep children safe from diseases that once struck routinely.  Vaccines have done a great job getting rid of these diseases or making them very rare. Most Georgia parents have never known the fears of earlier generations. Today, vaccines and immunization requirements protect Georgia children from these deadly illnesses. Talk with your child’s doctor or healthcare provider about other vaccines that are recommended to protect your child and keep them healthy.
