PARENTS OF STUDENTS IN K THROUGH 8TH GRADES
   
RCSS and HMH are ready to BLAST OFF TO SPACE with VIRTUAL SUMMER SCHOOL 2012. Students will have the opportunity during the summer months to practice and enhance their skills in Math and Reading.

First in MATH will be available during the summer.  Click the icon above and students will use their current user name and password to login.


Board Members, Helen Minchew and Eloise Curtis, participated in a tour at Plant Vogtle last week.  They were able to go into the reactors already on line as well as see construction taking place on the two new ones being added.  In the background above, are two cooling towers for the present reactors.  Mrs. Minchew shared, "it certainly was a most interesting experience!"

School Improvement Grant 1003(g) 
It was made official by the Georgia State Board of Education that Glenn Hills High, T.W. Josey High, and Lucy C. Laney High will receive School Improvement Grants and Title I, Part A, Section 1003(g) ARRA School Improvement Grants.

ATTENTION ALL CURRENT SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS

Mark your calendars! The time is drawing near for you to call SubFinder (706-826-4658) and pre-register for the 2012-2013 school year. During May 1-31, you must call the SubFinder number and listen for the option to pre-register. (You CANNOT pre-register on-line.) Failure to pre-register by the end of May will be considered your request to have your name removed from the Active Substitute List for RCSS. Assurance Letters are no longer mailed to Active Substitutes.

If you have not accepted at least 10 subbing positions by May 1st, you may need to call the SubFinder Operator, Kathryn Young, before being allowed to Pre-register.

Camp Horizon provides community-based summer enrichment activities for children with special needs who are enrolled in Richmond County public schools.  Camp Horizon is staffed with Special Education teachers and professionals who are familiar with your child’s disability.  We have room for 120 campers.  This will be on a first come first serve basis.

On Friday, April 13, 2012, students from T.W. Josey had a wonderful time in Atlanta.  They visited the High Museum of Art to see the Picasso to Warhol Exhibit.  The students wrote about their experience as part of their Literacy Initiative.

FREEDOM PARK K-8 SCHOOL
STUDENT COUNCIL
Students collected washcloths, tooth paste, tooth brushes, deodorant, shampoo, and other toiletry items for a community project.  64 packets were made and donated to the homeless shelter.  Picture above are student council members and Mrs. Stewart from the Salvation Army Homeless Shelter.


Richmond County's Reading Bowl

Tutt Middle School won overall in the Reading Bowl held on Friday, April 27th with Bayvale being our elementary winner!  Bayvale Elementary, Garrett Elementary, National Hills Elementary, Glenn Hills Middle, Pine Hill Middle and Tutt Middle participated on Friday in the system's first reading bowl.  Pine Hill Middle School won 4th place in the Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl earlier this year.  Click the picture above to view a slideshow of the event.

Congratulations to Mr. Ladell Fortune of Butler High School for being selected as our 2012 Teacher of the Year!!!
 
 The 2012 Teacher of the Year Banquet was held on Monday, November 7, 2011 at the Augusta Marriott.  The five finalists were Mr. Ladell Fortune of Butler High, Mrs. Jessie Herren of Sue Reynolds Elementary, Mrs. Ca'Vanna Lambert of Jamestown Elementary, Ms. Donita Legoas of Pine Hill Middle, and Mrs. Tronya Mims of Tobacco Road Elementary.
