I have been teaching in Richmond County for the past 9 years. I retired in Cleveland, Ohio after 38 years of service. When I came to Augusta, all I wanted to do was substitute; but was hired at Monte Sano Elementary after a long term position at Milledge Elementary. When the enrollment declined at Monte Sano I was placed here at Garrett Elementary. It is my goal to touch lives everyday as I teach the 4th grade curriculum in Science, Social Studies, and Health.
I graduated from Kent State University in 1967 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts and Science in Education and take pride in what is now considered an “old school teacher” believing in discipline. I earned a Master’s Degree August, 2010 from Augusta State in Curriculum and Instruction. The same year I was honored to receive the Teacher of the Year Award at Monte Sano Elementary School. In December of 2015 I received my Specialist in Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Augusta University. I also received a Reading Endorsement and Gifted Endorsement during my studies at Augusta State now Augusta University. This year I was elected Teacher of the Year at Garrett Elementary.
I enjoy bowling and until last year was a dominant competitor league bowler. I also love gardening and I am an aquarium hobbyist. My latest passion is traveling and enjoying the experiences of cultures throughout Turkey, Russia, Germany, France, Italy, Greece, the Netherlands as well as the Caribbean and South America.
My extra curriculum activities consist of a Drill Team and Poetry Club with third, fourth, and fifth grade students. Each after school activities is an hour each week and designed for participation in private practices as well as public performances. Students learn to exhibit role model qualities and a positive attitude in learning and enjoyment while in these after school programs.
