I have been teaching in Richmond County for the past 11 years.  I retired in Cleveland, Ohio after 38 years of service.  When I came to Augusta, all I wanted to do was substitute; but was hired at Monte Sano Elementary after a long term position at Milledge Elementary.   When the enrollment declined at Monte Sano I was placed here at Garrett Elementary.  I taught 2nd grade as well as the 4th grade curriculum in ELA, Science, Social Studies, and Health.  At present I reach each and every student at Garrett Elementary in Dance and Drama.  I also encounter the students who eat breakfast in the cafeteria and try to help start their day positively.

I graduated from Kent State University in 1967 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts and Science in Education and take pride in what is now considered an “old school teacher” believing in strong discipline.  I earned a Master’s Degree August, 2010 from Augusta State in Curriculum and Instruction.  The same year I was honored to receive the Teacher of the Year Award at Monte Sano Elementary School.  In December of 2015 I received my Specialist in Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Augusta University.  I also received a Reading Endorsement and Gifted Endorsement during my studies at Augusta State now Augusta University.  The year 2017 I was elected Teacher of the Year here at Garrett Elementary.  I don't take these honors lightly and try to continuously fulfill responsibilities above and beyond.

I enjoy bowling and until last year was a dominant competitor league bowler.  I also love gardening and I am an aquarium hobbyist.  My latest passion is traveling and enjoying the experiences of cultures throughout Turkey, Russia, Germany, France, Italy, Greece, the Netherlands as well as the Caribbean and South America.

My extra curriculum activities consist of a Drill Team with third, fourth, and fifth grade students.  The after school activity is an hour each Wednesday and designed for participation in private practices as well as public performances.  Students learn to exhibit role model qualities and a positive attitude in learning and enjoyment while in these after school programs.  School performances consist of Veterans Day, Red Ribbon Walk and, the heart walk.  Outside of school the Drill Team performs in the Christmas and Martin Luther King Parade.
