Dear Young Musicians and Garrett Elementary Families, and Community Members,

Welcome back to the 2025-2026 School Year! 
 

I’m so excited to see each of you and to begin another year of learning, growing, and making music together. This year, we will be taking an exciting adventure—our very own Musical Journey Around the World! With our passports in hand, we are ready to explore the sounds, rhythms, and stories that music brings from different cultures.
We’ll begin our travels by focusing on one of the most important parts of music: the steady beat—the heartbeat of every song. To help us on this first step of our journey, we will explore Reggae and Folk music.
 

Our very first destination is Jamaica, the colorful island known as the home of reggae legend Bob Marley. We’ll discover his powerful music, including the famous song One Love, One Heart, and learn how reggae rhythms inspire unity, peace, and joy. Pack your curiosity and get ready to clap, sing, play, and move as we explore new sounds together. I can’t wait to see where our passports take us this year. It’s going to be a journey full of fun, learning, and music-making!
