The Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl seeks “to foster a love of reading in the children of Georgia, and to introduce them to books of literary excellence”.
This competition is “a competitive game format that questions students about the content of the Georgia Book Award Nominees each year.”
When preparing for the competition, students have "opportunity to develop critical-thinking and reasoning skills, problem solving competencies, and technology proficiency" through various activities.
We have high expectations for each student who chooses to try-out for the HRRB Reading Team. In 2016 and 2018, McBean placed 2nd in the District competition and moved on to the regionals. In 2019, we succeeded in placing 1st in our District! Our 2020 team placed 4th in the District.
