    Learning Safari

    Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians,

Welcome to your child’s 5th grade year at Roy E. Rollins Elementary School.  My name is Alysa Larke and I am your child's 5th grade teacher for English/Language Arts and Social Studies.  Through curriculum planning, we are going to experience a year of engaging activities, a deeper exploration of a variety of topics, and ultimately have a year of growth that shows mastery of standards at levels of 3 (proficiency) or 4 (exceeding).  It is my sincere hope that your child will experience many positive, interesting, and rewarding school days ahead.  My primary goal is to provide the best learning environment where it is safe, risk-free and comfortable.

Parents and teachers have similar roles in offering children a warm and supportive environment.  Open communication between us is ESSENTIAL to make this year a success. The system we use to communicate with parents is ClassDoJo in which we have decided to use as our main communication.  This system allows you to see the positive and negative behaviors that your child is exhibting.  Based on the positives, students will be allowed to spend those DoJo points at our school DoJo store that will open quarterly. We have discussed positive and negative behaviors with them thoroughly in class, however, it is important for you to review the rules, rewards, and consequences again with your child to reiterate their importance.  This is to ensure that he/she understands what is expected of them.

Throughout this year, we are implementing some programs that parents need to be familiar with based on our district's expectation or it may be a school expectation.  AVID, Writing to Win,  I-Ready, and Accelerated Reader.  Throughout the year, you will receive more information concerning guidelines and expectations with these programs.

I would like to strongly encourage parent involvement and support.  Children who know that their parents are supportive of school usually demonstrate a higher level of achievement and better behavior in the classroom.  Please join in and support our school P.T.O. and be sure to attend our parent volunteer training in order to receive your parent volunteer card. Also, ATTENDANCE is one of our top focuses in order to increase student achievement please make sure your child is present for school everyday and on time.  Thank you parents for all you do.

Through combined efforts at home and school, our goals can be accomplished.  If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions please contact me at the school by phone or e-mail.  The number is (706) 796-4972 and please expect 48 hours at the maximum for a return phone call/e-mail.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    Miss. A. Larke
