Welcome to Third Grade Math! This is going to be a busy year learning some important math concepts. We will begin the year working on Place Value and Rounding and work our way through the different math concepts throughout the year. Problem Solving is a big part of math and it is imperative that students practice their math skills daily.

I believe that every student learns in different ways. I believe my job as a teacher is to take all of their different ways of learning and give students the opportunities to use what they feel works best for them in the classroom.  I believe this will help develop their success not only in the classroom, but outside the classroom as well. I want my class to be a positive experience for all students and do not want any student to feel frustrated in math.

The goal of our math class is for the students to have the math skills needed to have a firm understanding of the Georgia Standards of Excellence and be able to pass their Georgia Milestones with a proficient or higher rating.

Students have to become fluent in their multiplication facts. We will have weekly timed tests so students will need to study their facts nightly. Each unit of study we will have a Pretest, Posttest and sometimes a test in between to make sure students understand the concepts. The pretest will not be part of their grade. I will also give ticket out the doors weekly to make sure they are grasping the concepts. If I see that the students are not getting a concept, I will reteach or offer a time for students to come in after school for extra help.

Please make sure students come prepared for class daily. They need their composition books and folders daily. We will create an interactive notebook that will have notes and the necessary information they will need to be successful. If you have any questions please contact me at the school 706-737-7219 or you can email me at ellisel@boe.richmond.k12.ga.us
