Welcome to 7th Grade at Murphey Middle School! I am honored to have your child in my Life Science class, and I am excited to work with you and your child throughout the 2023-2024 school year. I believe that Life Science is an extremely engaging and interesting subject.  It increases our awareness and knowledge of the world around us and opens doors to new and exciting discoveries. 

This year your son or daughter will be using a variety of textbooks, online resources, worksheets, reading comprehensive literacy, videos, and instructional materials to help them achieve proficiency in life science content.  They will also have many opportunities to apply what they have learned in lessons through various lab investigations and activities, which can be fun and highly engaging. Science is a universal subject that spans the branch of knowledge that examines the structure and behavior of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment. 

My goal is to create an in classroom learning environment  to help your child:

- Engineering and the concept of the the design process

- Promote Literacy 

 -Develop a strong science vocabulary using POWER words

- Build a solid foundation of science concepts and understanding

- Make connections among science literacy and other investigative academic areas

- Utilize technology to learn more about science

- Apply mathematics to problem solving in science expressions and the world around us

- Develop critical thinking skills and the ability to challenge assumptions, think creatively, and solve real-life problems using science techniques and experiences

- Enjoy learning!

Because you are an integral part of your child’s education, I feel home to school communication is of vital importance. I hope to talk with each of you early this school year and continuing in the future.  I would also like to extend an invitation for you to contact me at any time.  I can be reached through the main office at school (706) 737-7350, Cell (706) 426-1822 or by email  at  scottde1@boe.richmond.k12.ga.us. My office hours are from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday thru Friday. Text messages are also accepted.  If you would like to talk in person, I am always available to schedule appointments before school, after school, or during my planning period.  Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns for as I will do the same. We are a TEAM and I look forward to working together to make sure our son/daughter is successful.

I know that we will have a successful, exciting, and productive year in Life Science and I look forward to being a part of the academic progress our child will make, so let's make this a TEAM effort.
