Welcome to Kindergarten

  • Welcome to Ms. Lewis’s Class

    Dear Parents,

Welcome to Kindergarten! I am super excited to teach your child this year! This is my third year at Blythe and eighth year in the school system. I earned my master’s at Liberty University. I have a special education background too. My paraprofessional is Ms. Curtis. This is her third year at Blythe as well. She has an abundance of experience and is an asset to our classroom. We welcome you to a new year of learning and discovery!

I would like to share some classroom procedures with you.

    • Folders – A folder will be provided for your child that will go home daily, so we can communicate with one another as needed. One side of the folder says Keep At Home. This side will be your child’s work or information for you to remove and keep at home. We will staple all your child’s papers for the week every Friday to send home for you to keep. A paper will be attached to the front of the weekly papers with comments that will require a parent signature to be turned in on Monday. The other side of the folder says Return To School. Any information that needs to be signed and returned will be placed on that side. I also keep a behavior log that will need to be initialed every day.

    • Student Work – Please look through your child’s papers in their folder to see what they are learning. I may write a note at the top of their paper if they need extra help with a skill.
      • Grading – We have a standards-based report card in kindergarten. Students will receive a score of 1-4.

1 – (Beginning learner) I am starting to learn this. I can’t do it by myself yet. Needs work.

2 – (Developing learner) I am starting to understand. Sometimes I may need help or an example. I am progressing.

3 – (Proficient learner, Meets) I can do it by myself. I can show how I understand. I make little to no mistakes.

4 – (Distinguished learner, Exceeds) I am working on a higher level. I can explain how to do this. I can teach others.

    • Class Rules – We have school/classroom rules for Pawsitively Amazing Bearcat Behavior
    1. Positive Attitude – Be kind and do your best.
    2. Act Responsibly – Ready to learn and follow the rules.
    3. Work for Success – Listen carefully, follow directions and stay on task.
    4. Show respect – Respect yourself, others, and property.

    • Class Dojo – The app can be downloaded to your phone for communication. I will send a request or give you a QR code to connect. I will be posting often on Class Dojo as a class and individually for information, so it is important to please use this app if possible.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns at 706-592-4090 or LewisKi@boe.richmond.k12.ga.us. It is going to be a wonderful year with our new classroom family! I look forward to working together for your child’s success! 😊

    Sincerely,

    Kimberly Lewis
