School Council Information
The establishment of school councils is intended to help local boards of education by bringing parents and the community together with teachers and school administrators to create a better understanding of and mutual respect for each other's concerns and share ideas for school improvement. School councils shall represent the community of parents and businesses. The members of the school council are accountable to the constituents they serve and shall:
- Maintain a school-wide perspective on issues
- Regularly participate in school council meetings
- Participate in information and training programs
- Acts as a link between the school council and the community
- Encourage the participation of parents and others within the school community
- Work to improve student achievement and performance.
Student Council is a curricular or extra-curricular activity for students in all schools around the world.
Students have a week to campaign throughout the school amoung their peers. The following week students vote to determine who has been selected to represent their grade. A representative from each 3rd, 4th and 5th grade will be chosen, as well as the following:
- Secretary from 3rd grade
- Vice-President from 4th grade
- President from 5th grade
The School Council at Glenn Hills Elementary School is involved with many activities throughout the year, such as:
- Morning Announcements
- Red Ribbon Week
- PTO Harvest Hope Food Drive
- Fall Reading Festival
- Teacher Appreciation Week activities
