Hello! My name is Becky Cole and I am the teacher of the SID/PID special education class at Cross Creek High School. I have been teaching high school since 2003 and have been at Cross Creek since the beginning. Teaching however, is a second career for me. My first career was in the medical field where I worked as a Respiratory Therapist and a gastroenterology assistant. After I became a teacher I taught Social Studies for 13 years but then decided to make the change to special education. You may ask why I would make the change after 13 years in regular education. That is easy to explain. While teaching Psychology and Sociology, I oversaw a mentoring program in which my students went into the self contained special education classes and mentored the students there. It was a fantastic experience for all! Over the years I found myself spending more and more time with the special needs students. When there was a period of time the class was without a teacher and there was difficulty finding a new one, I asked the principal if he would consider me for the position. He said "YES!" So, I got certified in adapted curriculum special education and that is how I got here. I am enjoying the change! This position also allows me to use my past experience and knowledge in the medical field and my education degree. The education, tools, and skills I have acquired over the years have prepared me for this position. I am truly blessed!
