Studio Arts

  • Painting 1 (Length - 55 minutes)
    Target Audience: 9th-12th Graders
    This course explores a variety of painting media and techniques.  An emphasis will be placed on developing basic painting skills and critical analysis skills needed to analyze peer and master paintings. Students will examine solutions to painting problems through the study of color theory and composition. Students will be encouraged to develop personal style, content, and concentration. 
    Basic required materials: Sketchbook, Portfolio, Set of Brushes, Paint palette with lid. 
     
    Drawing 1 (Length - 55 minutes)
    Target Audience: 9th-12th Graders
    This course explores a variety of drawing techniques and media. An emphasis will be placed on developing basic drawing skills and critical analysis skills for responding to peer and master drawings. Students will examine solutions to drawing problems through a mix of assignments and chosen concentrations. 
    Basic required materials: Sketchbook, Portfolio, Drawing pencils, sharpie markers, micron pens

Graphic Arts

  • Graphics 1 (Length - 25 minutes)
    Target Audience: 9th-11th Graders
    This course introduces graphic design concepts and techniques as seen in posters, advertisements, logos, illustrations, signs and package or product designs. Students explore the media, tools, equipment, techniques, processes and styles used for 21st century graphics. Students will be introduced to the historical development of graphics design and its function in contemporary society. An importance is placed on using the computer as a major design tool. 
    Basic required materials: Sketchbook, Portfolio, Flashdrive or access to cloud storage. 
     
    Graphics 2 (Length - 55 minutes)
    Target Audience: 9th-12th Graders
    This course builds upon the 21st century skills developed in the Graphics 1 class. Students will have the opportunity to work

3D Arts

  • Ceramics 1 (Length - 55 minutes)
    Target Audience: 9th-11th Graders
    This course is intended to Introduce students to the characteristics and building properties of clay. Students will learn techniques of construction and decoration in clay with an emphasis in hand building and other forming techniques, surface decoration and glaze applications. Students will be introduced to works from Western and non-Western cultures. 
    Basic Required Material: Sketchbook, old shirt or apron, spray bottle, air tight container 

    Ceramics 2 (Length - 55 minutes)
    Target Audience: 10th-12th Graders 
    This course in intended to build upon level-one skills and provides opportunities to apply design techniques in clay through hand building and/or throwing on the potter's wheel. Introduces formulation of basic glazes and kiln firing; stresses evaluation of clay forms through art criticism. 
    Basic Required Material: Sketchbook, old shirt or apron, spray bottle, air tight container 
     
    Ceramics 3 (Length - 55 minutes)
    Target Audience: 11th-12th Graders
    This course is intended to build upon level-two skills and provides opportunities to apply design techniques in clay through hand building and/or other wheel throwing techniques. Students will present ceramic/pottery forms as art and craft in historical context. Explores ideas and questions about purposes and functions of ceramic forms, past and present.
    Basic Required Material: Sketchbook, old shirt or apron, spray bottle, air tight container
