    The Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art is pleased to announce that the 46th Agnes Markwalter Youth Art Competition and Exhibition 2025 will be held at the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art from March 5th through March 26th.
     
    The annual exhibition pays tribute to the memory of Augusta native and artist Agnes Markwalter in addition to celebrating National Youth Art Month. Each submission will be inspired by this year’s theme, “Healing through Color". All artwork must be a broad interpretation of the theme in order to qualify for an award. This year's juror is Dylan Smeak.

    About the Congressional Art Competition. 

    Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and each congressional district. Since the Artistic Discovery competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated.

    Students submit entries to their representative’s office, and panels of district artists select the winning entries. Winners are recognized both in their district and at an annual awards ceremony in Washington, DC. The winning works are displayed for one year at the U.S. Capitol.

    Held in conjunction with National Youth Art Month, the Agnes Markwalter Youth Art Competition and Exhibition seeks to promote the value of art education for all children and to encourage support for quality school art programs throughout the CSRA. The 2024 competition showcases work inspired by the theme DREAM IN ART, created by K-12 students from public, private, and home schools in Aiken, Burke, Columbia, McDuffie, and Richmond Counties. This exhibition is generously sponsored by the Markwalter family.
