Dr. Laura Tomlin, Director of Orchestras

Laura Tomlin is excited to be in her eighth year as Director of Orchestras at Davidson Fine Arts.  Before coming to Davidson, she conducted the Greater Augusta Youth Orchestras (now Youth Orchestras of Augusta) and the Aiken Youth Orchestras.  She is an active musician, as well, currently serving as assistant concertmaster with the Augusta Symphony.  In April 2012 she was the featured violin soloist with the Davidson Fine Arts Chorus at the Lincoln Center in New York City in the world premiere of "St. George and the Dragon" by Dr. Timothy Powell.  She founded the Carolina Academy of Music in Aiken in 2004 and the Augusta University Conservatory String Camp in 1999. She is also a founder and co-directer of the Augusta University Conservatory Chamber Music Intensive.  In 2016 the AU string camp moved to Davidson Fine Arts and is now called the Vivace Orchestra Camp at Davidson.  She has a Bachelor of Music from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, a Master of Music from the University of Southern California, and a Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of Georgia, all in violin performance.
