    Write two informative paragraphs.  They should contain a simple sentence, compound sentence, complex sentence, and compound-complex sentence.  They should have a topic sentence, transition sentence, and closing.

    Using the passages, answer the following questions:

    1.  Summarize the entire passage in 4 sentences.  Do this for both passages.

    2.  Paraphrase the central idea of the entire passage.  Do this for both passages.

    3.  Paraphrase the main idea for each paragraph in your own words.  Do this for both passages.  

    4.  What was Ghandi's individual passion?  Jane Addam's?  Answer in your own words and cite evidence from the text in the form of quotes to support your answer.  Cite by using the title of the work.

    11/7:  

    Step 1: Create a KIMS chart for the critical vocabulary on pg. 49. You can find definitions and parts of speech within the story.

    Step 2: Answer questions 1-4 under the critical vocabulary section on page 49. You do not have to write the questions, just the answer, unless you ask me if you have to write the questions.

    Step 3: Complete the practice and apply on page 49.

    Step 4: Staple everything together and submit to the correct basket. There should not be talking during the work period. Failure to comply will result in additional work/homework. I do not plan to ask you multiple times to behave anymore.

    11/8:  Take notes on citing evidence (copy the chart), text features (words in bold), and cause and effect on page 47-48.  Complete questions 1-6 on page 48.

     

    11/12  Students are reading 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens in class.  Class work:  Create 3 predictions and 3 questions for the first section, "Get in the Habit".  Complete the Get in the Habit section of the Reading Guide.   Please note, students cannot take books home and must therefore complete the class work IN CLASS.  They are afforded enough time to do so.  

     

    11/13:  

    Step 1: Complete a dilectical journal for part 1. Remember, you must choose at least TWO passages to go over.

    Step 2: Complete KIMS Chart for the following words:

    Habit: noun: A regular practice that is hard to change or give up.

    Effective: adjective: Successful in creating the desired result.

    Navigate: verb: to plan and direct a route.

    Perception: noun: the ability to see or hear or to become aware of something through the senses.

    Paradigm: noun: A typical example or pattern of something.

    Principle: noun: a rule or belief that guides someone's personal behavior.

     

    11/14:  Classwork.  Must be completed in class, due to us only having a class set of books.  Students are afforded enough time to do the work in class, if they work instead of being off task.

    Step 1: Complete a dilectical journal for 63-70. Complete TWO entries. Make sure each entry is AT LEAT 3 sentences long. If your part from the passage is over 3 sentences, you may sum it up.

    1/14:  Complete an outline for the following prompt:  

    Prompt:  Is graffiti art or vandalism? The city of Covina is preparing to write a position statement on whether graffiti is an art form, or whether it is vandalism. The mayor has invited the public to join in the debate before the city writes its position statement.

    After reading the provided, write an argumentative, multi-paragraph essay that addresses the question “Is graffiti art or vandalism?”  You must support your position with evidence from the texts.
