IB Exam Letter: May 2020

While the COVID-19 pandemic is unprecedented in our time, the IB is working on a solution to the award of grades and Diplomas that affirms student achievement. For 52 years, IB scores and Diplomas have been awarded to students unable to sit for exams because of war, disease, famine, and natural disasters. We have been fortunate in that only now are we, too, being affected.

New information about the process of awarding grades and Diplomas will be released to coordinators by 27 March. As soon as I get it, I will post it here and send Remind texts to let you know about the update.

For years, Richmond Academy IB students have challenged themselves by taking the most rigorous course of study available to them; they have sacrificed, and they have postponed gratification with the promise that it would be worth it. That hard work pays off in more than just exam scores. Our students become IB learners - they demonstrate qualities that make them stronger people.

I know many students are very concerned about earning college credit for their work - the IB is working with universities around the world to assure that student achievement is recognized as it always has been.

To that end, it is VERY IMPORTANT that students continue to do their best on the INTERNAL ASSESSMENTS they are still working on. They will still be submitted, graded, and moderated. Updated deadlines for our students will be coming out soon.

I hope you and your family are doing well - we will all come through this together, and stronger!

On, on ARC!
