  • Course Description

Welcome to Biology! This course is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental concepts of life sciences. Throughout the year, students will explore the structure, function, growth, origin, evolution, and distribution of living organisms. The curriculum aligns with the Georgia Standards of Excellence for Science and emphasizes critical thinking, problem-solving, and scientific inquiry.

    Key Topics:

    • Cell Biology: Study of cell structure and function, including cell theory, cellular respiration, and photosynthesis.
    • Genetics: Understanding heredity, DNA structure and function, Mendelian genetics, and modern genetic technologies.
    • Evolution: Exploration of natural selection, adaptation, and the history of life on Earth.
    • Ecology: Examination of ecosystems, energy flow, biogeochemical cycles, and the interdependence of organisms.

    Course Objectives:

    • Develop a solid foundation in biological principles and concepts.
    • Enhance scientific literacy and the ability to apply scientific methods.
    • Foster an appreciation for the diversity of life and the complexity of biological systems.
    • Encourage critical thinking and problem-solving skills through laboratory experiments and hands-on activities.
    • Prepare students for advanced studies in biology and related fields.
