The Richmond County School System has 55 Georgia Lottery funded Pre-K classes. The Sytem has implemented the Georgia Pre-K program since 1994. The program provides a full instructional day (6.5 hours) to all eligible four year olds (must be 4 years of age on or before September 1) of the current school year. The Big Day Curriculum is used in all classes. At least 95% of the teachers are certified with a degree in Early Childhood or Elementary Education or working towards becoming certified.
The maximum class size is 22 students with the exception of the 10 HeadStart Blended classes. These classes have 20 students each. More information about the Georgia Lottery funded Pre-Kindergarten Program can be found by visiting www.decal.ga.gov.
