The Richmond County School System has 55 Georgia Lottery funded Pre-K classes. The Sytem has implemented the Georgia Pre-K program since 1994. The program provides a full instructional day (6.5 hours) to all eligible four year olds (must be 4 years of age on or before September 1) of the current school year. The Big Day Curriculum is used in all classes. At least 95% of the teachers are certified with a degree in Early Childhood or Elementary Education or working towards becoming certified.
The Georgia Pre-K Program is available in all elementary schools in the district with the exception of C.T. Walker. The maximum class size is 22 students with the exception of the 10 HeadStart Blended classes. These classes have 20 students each. More information about the Georgia Lottery funded Pre-Kindergarten Program can be found by visiting www.decal.ga.gov.

Children must be four years of age on September 1, 2019, based on acceptable documentation, such as birth certificates, certificates of live birth, passports, official medical documents, legal documents, or official documents from other countries. Only children whose birthdates are from September 2, 2014, through September 1, 2015, are eligible for participation in the 2019-2020 school year. Proof of age eligibility must be on file the day the child begins the Pre-K program. Children who are five years of age on September 1, 2019, and have not attended Georgia’s Pre-K Program as four-year-olds, may enroll in the Pre-K program. Parents and teachers are encouraged to consider the child’s date of birth, physical maturity, emotional maturity, and prior experiences when making the decision to enroll the child in the Pre-K program at age four or age five.
