The Richmond County School System has 58 Georgia Lottery funded Pre-K classes. The Sytem has implemented the Georgia Pre-K program since 1994. The program provides a full instructional day (6.5 hours) to all eligible four year olds (must be 4 years of age on or before September 1) of the current school year. The Big Day Curriculum is used in all classes. At least 95% of the teachers are certified with a degree in Early Childhood or Elementary Education or working towards becoming certified.
Children must be four years of age on or before September 1, 2021 based on acceptable documentation, such as birth certificates, certificates of live birth, passports, official medical documents, legal documents, or official documents from other countries. Only children whose birthdates are from September 2, 2016 through September 1, 2017, are eligible for participation in the 2021-2022 school year. Proof of age eligibility must be on file no later than the first day the child begins the Pre-K program.
The Georgia Pre-K Program is available in all elementary schools in the district with the exception of C.T. Walker. The maximum class size is 22 students with the exception of the 13 blended Pre-K/Head Start classrooms; these classes have 20 students each. More information about the Georgia Lottery funded Pre-Kindergarten Program can be found by visiting www.decal.ga.gov.
Please note: If a child attends a school outside of their attendance zone for Pre-Kindergarten, the child will return to his/her zoned elementary school for kindergarten unless approved through House Bill 251.
