  •  Welcome to RCSS Pre-K!

    Goal:

In alignment with the district's Strategy Map, the Pre-Kindergarten Program's focus is on improving early literacy and numeracy skills to help our early learners develop and become self-confident, independent learners. Students are involved in child-centered instruction that promotes creativity in rich and exciting learning environments.

    General Information:

The Richmond County School System has 58 Georgia Lottery funded Pre-K classes in 28 elementary schools. The System has implemented the Georgia Pre-K program since 1994 and provides a full instructional day to eligible four-year-old residents of Georgia. The maximum class size is 20 students. Each class has a lead and an assistant teacher. Breakfast and lunch are provided daily, and students are given rest time.

More information about the Georgia Lottery funded Pre-Kindergarten Program can be found by visiting, www.decal.ga.gov

    Curriculum:

The Creative Curriculum is used in all of our Pre-K classrooms; this research-based, state-approved curriculum features exploration and discovery as ways of learning.

    Age Requirement:

Children must be four years of age on or before September 1st based on acceptable documentation: birth certificates, certificates of live birth, passports, official medical documents, legal documents, or official documents from other countries. Proof of age eligibility and residency must be on file no later than the first day the child begins the Pre-K program.

    Residency eligibility:

As long as there is space available after our initial lottery occurs in the spring, students from any county in Georgia can attend our Pre-K program. It is important to note that if a child is attending a school outside of his/her zoned school, transportation to and from school will be the responsibility of the parents. Transportation is only provided for students that are attending their zoned school. It is also important to note that if a child attends a school outside of their attendance zone for Pre-Kindergarten, the child must return to his/her zoned elementary school for kindergarten unless approved by House Bill 251.
