Welcome to the Richmond County Orchestra Program
The Richmond County Orchestra Program, founded in 1964, is the only public school string instruction program in the CSRA and 3rd largest comprehensive program in the state of Georgia. Nine string teachers serve over 1,000 students each school year, in every school in Richmond County. Six county wide honor orchestras, spanning from elementary to high school levels, rehearse each week during the evenings at Tubman Education Center. These orchestras routinely participate in Large Group Performance Evaluations, sponsored and adjudicated by the Georgia Music Educators Association, and consistently receive Superior and Excellent ratings. The program has a strong parent base and presence in the community, performing at various local events throughout the year. Past performances of these orchestras include performing at the Governor’s Mansion Open House, two legislative dinners held at the Governor’s mansion, the Georgia Music Educators Conference, and the annual Richmond County Teacher of the Year banquet. As a community service, the orchestras also regularly perform at the Georgia War Veterans Home, Augusta Gardens, Arts in the Heart of Augusta and Walton Rehabilitation Hospital.
