PHASE II - ESPLOST

  • In 2002, the Richmond County community vote approved a second ESPLOST.  Phase II of the Richmond County Board of Education ongoing Building Program was completed in 2007 and consisted of 59 total projects including the following: two hundred forty-nine (249) new classrooms, three (3) New Elementary Schools - Deer Chase Elementary School, Diamond Lakes Elementary School (both in South Richmond), and Replacement for Hornsby Elementary School, one (1) New A.R. Johnson Science Technology High School, three (3) New Stadiums / Athletic Complexes (Westside High School, Glenn Hills High School and Laney High School) and several Expansion and Renovation projects.

     

    As a result of additional collections during Phase II, savings from the Phase II Program, and investments from these dollars, further projects were able to be completed as a part of Phase II beyond the original planned scope.  Additional projects / scope included the following:

     

    • Langford Middle School - Advertised for 4 new classrooms, but was able to build 11.
    • Glenn Hills Elementary School - Advertised for 8 new classrooms, but was able to build 10.
    • Gracewood Elementary School - Advertised for 8 new classrooms, but was able to build 10.
    • Terrace Manor Elementary School - Was able to add sitework and HVAC upgrade.
    • Bus Maintenance Facility

     

    The total Phase II Program was approximately $185,800,000.00.
