Summer reading is critical, not only for helping children maintain learning while school is out, but also for fostering social-emotional development, discovering the joy of stories, and elevating the importance of lifelong learning. When it comes to encouraging summer reading, we know that when children choose, they read! Children agree “My favorite books are the ones that I have picked out myself.” We encourage you to read books you love, even if they do not appear on a reading list!
