     Advanced Placement (High School)

    Advanced Placement (AP®) courses provide high school students a college-level academic experience. The College Board partners with colleges and universities to develop an appropriately challenging curriculum, to create college-level assessments, and to train teachers to deliver instruction that meets college-level standards. All Richmond County School System high schools offer AP courses taught by College Board trained teachers.

    AVID (Elementary, Middle, and High School)

    AVID provides scaffolded support that educators and students need to encourage college and career readiness and success. With AVID, school leaders have the flexibility to start small and can deepen AVID’s impact on their campus over time. The following RCSS Schools offer AVID: Jamestown Elementary, Langford Middle, Richmond Hill K-8 (Middle School), Butler High School, Josey High School, and Glenn Hills High School.

     Gifted Services (Elementary, Middle, and High School)

    The Richmond County School System (RCSS) provides services for identified gifted students at all grade levels that are designed to meet the specific academic needs of gifted students. RCSS adheres to the rules and regulations established by the Georgia Department of Education for identification and service of gifted learners.

     Governor's Honors Program (High School)

    The Georgia Governor’s Honors Program (GHP) is a four-week summer residential instructional program designed to provide intellectually gifted and artistically talented high school students challenging and enriching educational opportunities not usually available during the regular school year. Selection for participation in GHP is a competitive process which begins with local school interviews in September, followed by system level interviews in late October and early November. All RCSS high schools participate in the GHP selection process. Please contact your local high school for more information.

     International Baccalaureate (Elementary, Middle, and High School)

    The International Baccalaureate (IB) offers a continuum of international education through four challenging, high quality educational programs to students aged 3 to 19. The four programs are: Primary Years Program (PYP), Middle Years Program (MYP), Career-related Program (CP), and Diploma Program (DP).

    IB programs encourage both personal development and academic achievement challenging students to think critically, to ask the right questions and think across disciplines. An IB education also fosters diversity, curiosity and a healthy appetite for learning.

    The following RCSS Schools offer IB Programs: Copeland Elementary (PYP), Hephzibah Elementary (PYP), Lake Forest Hills Elementary (PYP), Hephzibah Middle (MYP), Langford Middle (MYP), Academy of Richmond County (DP & CP), and Hephzibah High (MYP).

     Move On When Ready/Dual Enrollment (High School)

    Georgia’s dual enrollment program allows high school students to earn college credit while working on their high school diploma. This program makes it easier to take advantage of the available options to enroll in college courses while still in high school. Students must meet the MOWR/dual enrollment admissions requirements set by the participating postsecondary institution they wish to attend. Students at all RCSS high schools have the opportunity to participate in Dual Enrollment. More information is available from the link below and your school guidance counselor.
